Color Schemes With Personality: This trend is the color scheme itself and the way in which it is used as a principal design element – we’re talking about color schemes with a personality that are consistently applied throughout the whole product experience. In general, we’re seeing schemes with two or three primary colors and various secondary colors. Saturated and pastel colors are combined, making way for striking high contrast effects. There are many examples of plain bold colors in the background combined with photography, typography and illustration.
There seems to be something particularly attractive about brutalism’s in-your-face aesthetic these days. Whether it’s as a natural pendulum swing away from the “clean” and “minimal” style that recently dominated the web – a rejection of the cutesy friendliness of a million brand’s voice and illustrations, a middle finger in the face of the so-called “homogeneous web,” or an act of resistance to the increasingly surreal blend of fact and fiction the web exposes us to daily – there’s no denying that brutalism has moved out of design’s subculture and into the fully branded spotlight.
Three-dimensional renderings are providing an update to flat design. The result is a mash-up of 3D realistic and flat interfaces that are complex, visually interesting and showing up everywhere. It’s like a touch of virtual reality in designs that don’t require anything special to look at. When you look deeper into the trend, a lot of what make it work are depth in layers plus animation.
